Former Commonwealth 1,500m champion James Magut is optimistic of taking a title in this weekend’s 6th leg of Athletics Kenya Track and Field event to be staged in Mombasa’s Shanzu Teachers College.
Speaking during the 5th meeting in Mumias after finishing the race, Magut, the winner of 2014 Commonwealth title said he has been training after recovering from an injury and is hoping to do well in the Coastal Town.
“Today I was not lucky but I want to try my luck in Mombasa next week. With that, I will gauge my fitness after recovering from an injury,” said Magut.
The Mombasa event comes after Mumias, Eldoret and Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia where Magut did not get a chance to defend his title.
The Mombasa event kicks off tomorrow to Saturday, then the championships will move to Kericho.
