Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango was named the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Most Valuable Player for the 2018/19 season yesterday.
The award, coming at the tail of an impressive season, marked a glorious night for the Kenyan international, who was also named the season’s Defender of the Year at the gala.
For his wins on the night, Joash bagged Kshs 1m, having beaten Ulinzi Stars forward Enosh Ochieng and his former team mate Francis Kahata to the award.
In the other categories, Farouk Shikhalo was named the Golden Glove winner, while Francis Kahata was pronounced the winner in the Midfielder of the Year category.
Tusker FC’s David Majak was named the Young Player of the Year and former Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay the Coach of the Year.
