Josephine Sembeyo Mancha won gold for Kenya at the concluded five day World Athletics under 20 championships in Oregon, USA as caren Chepchirchir settled for bronze.
Sembeyo, who missed a podium finish at the Africa Under 18 championships after finishing 5th in the 800m, won Kenya’s third gold in the 1,500m when she clocked 4:16.73 to record her major title.
The 19 year old student at the AIC Loitoktok Girls managed to beat American Clair Stegall to second for silver in 4:16.77.
It was disappointing for the experienced Chepchirchir, the Africa under 18 1,500m champion who managed to win bronze.
Coming from Bishop Louis High school in Laikipia County, Chepchirchir crossed the finish line at 4:17.50.
