High flying Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) surprised Kabras Sugar and Western Bulls to qulify into the quarterfinals of Kabeberi sevens, the Kenya sevens opening series at the RFUEA ground, Nairobi.
The university side 17-12 against cane cutters before beating Bulls 19-5 in their Pool A to lock out Kabras.
In other pool A matches, reigning champions KCB Rugby Bulls 31-14, Kabras 22-5 and Mmust down 40-7.
Daystar University Falcons also won their chances to qualify into the quarters.
They beat former champions Impala Saracens 14-05 and 21-12 against Northern Suburbs before losing 24-07 to Nakuru.
In the same pool Nakuru beat Suburbs 19-12 and 12-12 draw against Sarries.
Kabeberi champions Mwamba played to a 19-all against Strathmore Leos beat Mean Machine 32-0 and a 19-10 over Nondescripts to top pool B. then Leos beat Machine 32-5.
Former champions Homeboyz beat Menengai Oilers 15-07, Blak Blad 29-0 and Kenya Harlequin 36-0 to top pool C.
In other pool C matches, Oiler beat Quins 24-14 and Blak Blad 19-5.
