Hosts Kabras Sugar surprisingly dropped to Challenge Trophy with reigning National sevens champions Homeboyz became the first team to qualify into the Main Cup in the ongoing Kakamega sevens that kicked off today.
The sugar millers finished third in pool C following their dismal performance finishing after losing two out of three matches played today.
Despite thrashing Kisii 21-05, the millers lost 24-05 to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and went down 07-29 to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).
Following their dismal performance, they will be facing off with another surprising loss Kenya Harlequins who lost all their pool matches in 14-26, 0-10 and 19-07 to Strathmore University, Egerton and Nakuru RFC respectively.
The champions won two and drew one in their pool A encounter to book for the quarterfinal play against Nondescripts.
Homeboyz were 26-05 winners against Western Bulls in the opening match before thrashing Menengai Oilers 17-07 and drew against Impala Saracens 12 all to top pool A with eight points
Nondies on their side saw off Nairobi University side Mean Machine 07-05 in the opener, beat invitees Kisumu 24-10 and went down 26-12 to former champions Mwamba to finish second in pool B.
After winning all their pool B matches, Mwamba will play Impala Saracens who finished second in pool C.
The former champions won against Kisumu 38-0 and Machine 19-0 and beat Nondies 26-12.
