Former Kenya Rugby sevens champions Kabras Sugar has pulled out of the Kabeberi sevens, the second leg of Kenya rugby sevens to be hosted this weekend at Kinoru stadium in Meru.
The sugar millers have cited financial challenges as the reason why they can’t make it to Meru.
According top Raga House, Kabras Sugar had not planned to travel to Meru County when they were planning their season budget.
“We were working with last season’s budget and Kabeberi 7s was to be in Machakos/Nairobi. Going to Meru is not possible for us,” the official said.
“Going to Meru will cost us almost double of what we had planned for. We wish the Meru leg was announced early enough to help us prepare well especially team from Western.”
Kabras Sugar had been pooled in group D of Kabeberi 7s with Nakuru, Strathmore Leos and Northern Suburbs.
Kenya Rugby Union will on Thursday evening name Kabras Sugar’s replacement.
Technically, they will have to start at div II in the tournament after Kabeberi 7s, Dala 7s or else be invited to the top division by host side Kisumu RFC who by that time may have to invite themselves first.
