Upstarts Neita, Wanjiru and regulars Kwamesa cut Africa Deaf athletics ticket

Little known Roselida Neita and 3,000m record holder Lucas Wanjiru were among the 50 athletes selected Deaf Athletics Association of Kenya(DAAK) to represent the country at the inaugural Africa Deaf Athletics Championships to be held at Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani between 16th to 25th September at the same venue.

Following the conclusion of the two day DAAK national championships today at the same venue, Neita won the women’s 3,000m steeplechase held the Mumias School for the Deaf won the race in 13:08.58.

The 17 year old beat her school mate Jentrix Dindi who came in second in 13:11.23 as Ann Wangeci timed 13:33.33 settled for third

In men’s water and barriers, World Record holder Lucas Wanjiru clocked 9:35.2 beat Jacob Kibet in 9:16.7 as Henry Kipsang settled for the third place in 10:15.2.

regulars Juster Kwamesa and Peter Toroitich were the winners in 10,000m race.

Juster Kwamesa will lead women’s 10,000m team that has Laureen Ngonga and Grancy Jebichi. The three will also compete in the 5,000m alongside the winner Hannah Wanjiru.

Martin Gache will compete in both the 5,000m (14:49.99) and 10,000m (30:38.93) races will lead the Kenyan Team to the continentals. In the 5,000m he will tag along with Omari Kokobi and Amos Langat,.
