Kakamega’s prayers tops agenda

Multiple national secondary school soccer champions’ Kakamega High school will redeem its image when Kenya national secondary School Sports Association gets underway this Tuesday in Eldoret’s Hill school.

School head of co-curricular department Peter Okova said that as a team, they have embarked on prayers as part of their daily routine apart from the normal daily training with many friendly matches.

“We have had prayers and prayed enough and we are still praying. The prayers have been great for us and kept us on the good course ahead of the championships,” said Okova.

Apart from the prayers, the school, popularly referred to Green Commandos, with part of students taking part in the National Super League (NSL), the school is in pool A alongside other soccer bigwigs St. Anthon’s Boys, Kitale, Kathungi and Kisumu Day in pool A.

“Our main challenger is St. Anthony though we have prepared very well for the championships and going ahead, newcomers Dagoreti will have an impact too,” said Okova.

The Kakamega County-based school outshone 2016 East Africa semifinalists Bukembe Boys from Bungoma county during the Western Region championships staged in Mumias last month in soccer under 19 category.

“We are fully prepared for the championships to win the national title again and we have been up and down, playing various friendly matches to ensure the boys play the best football like national champions,” concluded Okova.

Last year, the soccer giants finished in third place at the national level and finished in the same position at the East Africa championships held in Uganda.
