Kamito, St Joseph’s Laiser Hill triumph at RVSSSA in Eldoret

Returning into action after two years of ban, former Kenya Secondary Schools Sport’s Association handball runner-up Kamito and champions St Joseph’s Kitale were crowned the champions of Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sport’s Association term one held at the Chebisaas Boys in Eldoret.

Kamito from West Pokot County edged out immediate regional champions Saniak Boys from Nandi County to book the national slot that will be staged in Mombasa next month.

In what appeared to be a one-sided encounter in the first half with Saniak on the steering wheel, Reenergized Kamito managed to win the final with a slim margin of 33-32.

Saniak led 17-15 at half time before tables were turned to a final win.

Kamito principle Isaiah Sortum said that following their ban, they went into the drawing board to ensure that they don’t male similar mistakes.

“I’m the custodian of all documents, and that’s why I had to come and confirm how boys are playing,” said Sortum.

Sortum added that headings for the nationals, he wants his side to win the title and head to East Africa Games.

“We were second at the national and East Africa, but this time, we want both national and East Africa titles. Winning in Rift Valley is not easy,” said Sortum.

In the girls’ handball, St Joseph’s returns to the national after missing last year in the hands of Murinduko, whom they beat yesterday in the semifinals.

School captain Tebby Khakula is optimistic that their journey will not end at the national beat East Africa.

“We have been fighting to our best since we started this journey, and we want to ensure we improve on our delivery,” said Khakula.

She added that their principal, Rosebella Orwaro, has been of great support in their journey to success.

“Through the school management, we have had what we wanted that makes us achieve in whatever we do as a team,” said the goalkeeper.

The Trans Nzoia county school defeated Nandi County St Benedict Kipsamoite 32-12 to book for the national single slot.

In other results, Laiser Hill was 77-72 winners over St Joseph’s Kitale in boys’ basketball as St Joseph’s Girls won against Nasokol 70-24.

In hockey girls, St Joseph’s beat Nakuri High 18-0 in a repeat of 2024 finals.
