Kamworor, Tirop stars at Athletics Kenya championships

Three-time world half-marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor and former world cross cross country champion Agnes Tirop romped into victory in today’s Athletics Kenya National Championships at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The two-time world cross country champion, Kamworor won the 10,000m title to win in 27:24.76 ahead of World Under-20 10,000m champion Rhonex Kipruto (Police) and former world under 20 10,000m champion Rodgers Kwemoi and Kenya Defence Forces’ long-distance runner Alex Oloitiptip.

Kipruto Kwemoi finished second and third in 27:26.34 and 27:26.92 respectively.

The former New York Marathon will be returning to the course to redeem his image.

In women’s 10,000m, world 10,000m bronze medallist Jebet edged out World 5,000m Hellen Obiri.

Jebet (Kenya Police) won in 31:25.00 ahead of Obiri’s (KDF) 31:25.38 as well as Kenya Prison’s Rosemary Wanjiru who came in third in 31:26.22.
