In honoring the departed former Olympics 3,00m silver medalist Ben Jipcho, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati will be naming Kaptama High Altitude Training Camp in Mt Elgon in his name.
The camp, which is under construction, is set to revive athletics in the region as well as honouring the legendary Jipcho who died in July and hailed from the county despite being buried in Trans Nzoia.
The camp was started by then county governor Ken Lusaka who is now the Senate speaker before Wangamati took charge in 2017.
Jipcho also won gold medals in 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase at the 1974 Commonwealth Games held in Christchurch, New Zealand.
