Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) champion Michael Karanga and Captain John Lejirma will lead Kenya at the R&A Africa Amateur Championship at the Leopard Creek Country Club in Pretoria, South Africa.
The tournament teed off today to February 8th where Karanga from Kiambu and Kenya Railays’ Lejirma will lead top amateurs that includes Kiambu’s Elvis Muigua, Nyali’s Adel Balala, Nakuru’s John Kamais, Vetlab’s Ebill Omollo, Limuru’s Dennis Maara, and junior golfer Kevin Ayien.
At the same time, Isaac Makokha, the only deaf player from Vet Lab travelled with squad as reserve for the championship that will bring together 72 amateurs from across Africa in the 72-hole stroke play format.
The winner of the men’s tournament will earn an exemption to compete in the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush in July.
Last year, Balala was the only Kenyan to make the cut in the final round.
In the women section, the organizers invited 21 golfers from the region will be held at the same venue during the championship week.
Kenya will be represented by Joyce Wanjiru, Bianca Ngecu, Kanana Muthomi, and Channelle Wangari.
