Kenya Premier league (KPL) teams dominated the third edition of Sportpesa Super Cup opening matches played today at National Stadium in Dare Es Salam, Tanzania.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Shield Cup champions Kariobangi Sharks defied home fans cheers and jeers to defeat Yanga 3-2 while Bandari, who finished second in last season KPL edged out Singida United in the quarter-finals to advance to semifinals.
Duke Abuya netted a brace for Kariobangi Sharks in their 3-2 win against Yanga in the second quarter-final match as George Abege scored a goal to seal the victory for double win for kenyan teams.
Despite the scuffle in the match where Sharks keeper John Oyemba was attacked by Yanga players for failing to give them the ball following their second goal from substitute Hamisi Tambwe deep in injury time.
The Sharks win propelled them to face Bandari in the semi-finals. Bandari saw off home side Singida United 1-0 in the first quarter-final earlier at the same venue.
The Ugandan import Abuya scored the opener in the 10th minute before adding the second 27 minutes later.
Topping KPL table, Bandari edged Singida 1-0 courtesy William Wadri goal in the 66th minute penalty.
Wadri made the only difference between the two sides and the dockers, who are making their debuting in the competition their counterparts Sharks who edged Yanga in the second match.
