Playing on home turf, Kellie Gachaga fired three birdies to end the first two rounds with nine over par 151 in the opening day of Kenya Junior Stroke Play golf championships at par 71 Muthaiga golf club today.

Gachaga carded six over 77 in the first round before playing three over 74 in the second round to take the lead.
After playing well in the second round, he managed to trounce the first round winner Tuimur Malik from Windsor golf club’s took the early lead with one over par 72 but he slid in the second round, playing nine over 80 in the tournament that attracted 51 golfers.
Malik finished second with eleven over par 152 while home player E. N Njugu carded 12 over par 151 to complete the podium.
Tournament favourite Mutahi Kibugu, who is the title defending champion Mutahi Kibugu failed to enjoy home course completing in fourth position with thirteen over 155 before Brain Omondi of Thika Sports finishing 5th overall.
The going was however tough for some including Muthaiga’s Zubair Khan, who shot nine over par 80, with five others, firing 81 gross.
Steve Orinda, Victor Maiyo, Rishab Sagoo, Akshay Chandaria and Thika’s Brian Omondi also struggled in the first round
