Athletics fraternity is mourning the death of Former world 400m hurdle champion Nicholas Bett who died today morning in a road accident in Nandi County.
According to his father Joseph Boit, Bett was travelling from Kapsabet to Nairobi when he was involved in an accident along Nakuru-Kapsabet road.
“He was a lone in the car when the accident happened. He did not have enough information about the road where he hit the bump and died on the spot,” said Boit at the scene of the accident.
Boit is the Uasin Gishu Athletics Kenya chairman.
Bett won the world title in 2015 in Beijing world championships at Bird’s Nest stadium, China.
Bett died on the spot after the car he was driving landed in a ditch near Lessos at Sochoi.
The champion runs along his brother Aron Koech, who anchored the national team to win 4x400m relays at the concluded Africa Athletics championships in Asaba, Nigeria.
His body has been taken to Kapsebt mortuary in Nandi County.
