Kenya fight back to tie with Uganda in day one of Africa Region Four tourney at Serena golf club

Kenya team produced a sterling performance in the second round to tie on top with Uganda in the opening day of Africa Region Four Golf Championships at par 72 Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort in Uganda.

In today’s 36 hole, the quartet of captain Dennis Maara of Limuru, Michael Karanga from Kiambu, John Lejirma of Kenya Railways and Nyali’s Adel Balala earned 5.5 points in the second round to tie woth defending champions as the annual returned into action after two years since 2019.

Maara fired one over par 73, Karanga’s three under par 69, Lejirma six over par 78 and Balala’s seven over par 79 earned them a gross of 445 to tie with champions who led in round one in the morning.

Competitors Uganda also managed 449 with 5.5 points when Joseph Cwinyaai fired one under par 71, Dennis Asaba fired seven over par 79, Michael Alunga on eight overpar 80 and Godfrey Nsubuga with five over par 77.

Tanzania was placed third with four points and 466 gross, while Rwanda was fourth with 495 gross which gave them three points. Ethiopia and Burundi tied in fifth place with 1.5 points.

During the opening round, Balala shot three over 75 while Lejirmah had the best score of two over 74 in addition to Maara and Karanga’s 76 and 77. Uganda had a level par 72 by Cwinyaai and 73 by Godfrey Nsubuga which made them jump ahead before Kenya moved to tie with them at the close of the day.
