The…coached side managed to beat South Africa 17-14 to claim the position, which was a consolation after losing the two opening pool matches against Spain and Brazil at 33-14 and 28-10 respectively before bouncing back for 7-5 victory over Colombia to secure a play off against South Africa.
Madine Roos converted try handed South Africa a 7-0 lead but Freshia Oduor responded with her unconverted try by Sinaida Nyachio for 7-5. Sharon Auma touched down Sinaida Mokaya missing another conversion for 7-10 lead for Kenya.
With Judith Okumu on sinbin, South Africa managed another try through Shiniqwa Lamprecht and Roos converting for 14-10, then Alicia Wilense was handed a red card to hand Kenya an advantage and Oduor grabbed the second try with Nyachio converting for 14-17 victory.
