Shujaa shine over Canada at Los Angeles series

Shujaa, the national rugby men’s 7s team have secured a place to play in the 7s Series Division 2 following their victory against Canada at the play-offs.

The Kevin Wambua side won 24-05 to play in the second tier following their relegation from top tier.

Anthony Mboya opening the try making first unconverted try before doubling the tries with Nygel Amaitsa adding the extras for 12-0 lead, then Kevin Wekesa made the third try as Amaitsa shot between the posts for 19-0 into water break. .

On resumption, Vincent Onyala touched down for the second try with Amaitsa failing to covert for 24-0 for Shujaa but Canada had a consolation unconverted try courtesy James Thiel for the final 24-05 win for Kenya.

Kenya alongside USA and Uruguay will face off Division 2 under the new structure where they have adopted a new three-division format.

  • Division 1: Features eight men’s and eight women’s teams competing in six high-profile SVNS Series events.
  • Division 2: Comprises six teams per gender, battling it out across three events.
  • Division 3: A standalone Challenger event featuring eight teams per gender, who qualify through regional competitions.
