Kenya Premier League (KPL) defending champions Gor Mahia have returned to the summit of the table following their win against Zoo Kericho in the mid week fixture played at Green Stadium in Kericho.
The champions who were involved in the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) against Leones Vegetarinos of Equatorial Guinea 2-0, thrashed their hosts 4-2 to take control of the table.
That was the second win, registering 100% wins since the 2018 serason began. They started on a high note beating Nakumatt 4-0 on their opener
Jacques Tuyisenge opened the score with 35 minutes in the match before Boniface Omondi added a second after the break.
Johnson Ligare of Kericho slotted in his first goal on the 68th minute before Joachim Oluoch pounced onto a rebound to score the third in the 70th minute and three minutes later, substitute Samuel Onyango slotted home after goalkeeper Martin Elungat failed to hold onto Meddie Kagere’s shot. Striker Nicholas Kipkirui scored his second goal of the season and Zoo’s second in the 75th minute but the record champions had done enough to claim maximum points.
The win saw Gor go top on six points with superior goals against Mathare United.
The win was good for Gor who will be travelling to Equatorial Guinea for a return match in the Caf Champions League against Vegetarinos in Malabo.
