Chess Kenya (CK) will be selecting the best players when they play Ivory Coast in the Virtual Chess championships this Saturday.
This will be the first time the two nations are engaging in the virtual show according to CK chairman Bernard Wanjala.
Wanjala said that there are ongoing series matches between nations and individuals to keep the players busy by sharpening skills in this coronavirus period.
“There are two options currently where a national can play against each other or individual players can organize a match. We have opted for online matches to keep our players up with activities,” said Wanjala.
He expressed in the online matches, unlik in the normal matches, there is limited time control to avoid players from cheating.
“If a player will be allowed to take more time than expected unlike in physical playing they can easily cheat. We are using bwtween 3-5 minutes to play,” said Wanjala.
In selection of players, Wanjala said that the player has to show interest to play and ensure that there is enough materials before he or she signs for the match.
“A player needs to show interests and confirm that where he or she is has good internet to avoid buffering before he is selected to the match,” said Wanjala.
