Kenyan pair of Angela Okutoyi and Roselinda Asumwa fell to Nigeria at the ongoing Billie King Cup Africa 3 at the Nairobi Club today.
Kenya fell to Nigeria in the semifinals 2-1 6-0, 61 to opponents Alicia Owegi and Barakat Onyinlomo.
Despite Okutoyi displaying remarkable resilience against Adesuwa Osabuohien, securing victory of 6-3, 6-3, in all sets, leveling the scoreline and reigniting Kenya’s hopes.
At the doubles, Okutoyi and Asumwa Roselida fell to Nigeria’s Osabuohien and Barakat of 6-3, 6-7
Head coach Francis Rogoi has emphasized the need to prepare well for the next match in order to fulfill their promotion ambitions.
“Last year we beat Morocco in our pool and they qualified for Group II. We are still on, we want to prepare, we want to recover properly, if we are able to go very big on Saturday then everything will be well. We will get back as a team and encourage each other to come back stronger,” he explained.
The semi-finals will be played in a round robin with the winner getting the ultimate promotion to Europe Africa Group II in 2025.
Nigeria will play South Africa on Friday while Kenya will battle South Africa on Saturday
