Kephar Lumbasi Namutala and Ivyne Jeruto claim Kigali International Peace marathon titles

Kenyans Kephar Lumbasi Namutala and Ivyne Jeruto were the winners of the 21st edition of the Kigali International Peace Marathon, one of East Africa’s premier road racing events held today in Kigali, Rwanda.

Namutala produced a commanding performance to win the title in 2:14:19 leading Kenyans in sweeping the podium when Shadrack Kimining finished second in 2:15:18 with while Benard Kipkorir securing third position in 2:16:22.

The first homeboy to cross the finish line was Fidel Ntirenganya coming in 7th position at 2:18:17.

Jeruto claimed the women marathon title when she cut the tape at 2:35:35 ahead of Ethiopian pair of Tegest Ayalew Ymer who was second in 2:36:15 while Tsega Desta Mehari came third in 2:36:54.

Half marathon

Kenya’s Amos Kirui and Rwandese Ibishatse Angelique  claimed victory in the Kigali International Peace Marathon held today in Kigali, Rwanda.

Kirui won the 21km distance after clocking 64:16 ahead of Uganda’s Oscar Kibet with Kenyan Zakariah Kirika Gacugu completed the podium in third place.

In women, it was a home affair when Ibishatse Angelique delivered a sensational run to win the race in 73:29, ahead of compatriots Berthilde Mutuyimana in 73:53 and Tuyambaze Thabita 74:05 in an all podium sweep.
