Former Harambee Stars tactician Francis Kimanzi has resigned as Mathare United head coach ahead of the 2019/2020 season that kicks off next month.
Kimanzi led Mathare United to the team’s only Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title, in 2008, ends his second stint as the team’s coach on Thursday 25 July after four years in charge.
As he checks out, Salim Ali, who ably served as his assistant coach over the four years will ascend to the head coach’s position, and having been with the team for the better part of the preseason, he will not struggle to settle in.
According to insiders at Mathare United, Kimanzi, who also played for the team before going into coaching, has taken the move so he can focus well on his other roles at the Kenya national teams.
Kimanzi serves as one of the assistant coaches at the senior national team while he is also the head coach of the Kenya U23 national team.
He was with the senior national team in Cairo as it took part in the 2019 African Cup of Nation
