African cross country champion Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli failed to win a medal as Joshua Cheptegei won the 5,000m title at the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Kimeli was outsprinted by Ugandan Cheptegei for the title to finish 4th during the 5,000m final.
The world 10,000m and 5,000m champion Cheptegei, who lost the 10,000m title to Selemon Barega won the title in 12:58.12 ahead of Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed to win silver in 12:58.61 while USA’s Paul Chelimo completed the podium with the bronze medal in 12:59.05.
Kimeli, who was the only Kenyan finalists was 4th in 12:59.19.
