Kimeli fails as Cheptegei shines in 5,000m in Tokyo

African cross country champion Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli failed to win a medal as Joshua Cheptegei won the 5,000m title at the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Kimeli was outsprinted by Ugandan Cheptegei for the title to finish 4^th during the 5,000m final.

The world 10,000m and 5,000m champion Cheptegei, who lost the 10,000m title to Selemon Barega won the title in 12:58.12 ahead of Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed to win silver in 12:58.61 while USA’s Paul Chelimo completed the podium with the bronze medal in 12:59.05.

Kimeli, who was the only Kenyan finalists was 4^th in 12:59.19.
