Former Valencia marathon champion Victor Kipchirichir and Emily Chebet were crowned the champions Eldoret City marathon held today in Eldoret.
Kipchichir retained his title he won last year in 2:13.10 ahead of Michael Rotich to second position after timing 2:13.23 and Josphat Kipkoech Bett to complete the podium after timing 2:13.58.
Kipchicrchir said that course was very tough as he was running to retain his title, but he banked on his perseverance to win the title.
“I had a minor injury of muscle pull during his training in the beginning of this year, which made him not to run well.” Added Kipchichir.
He said that he wanted to push for good time but the compatriots were not able to follow him.
“I was trying to push to run good time but my compatriots were not able to follow me. The weather today was not good it was windy and sun that slowed me down,” he said
Chebet 2:29.38 ahead of Sharlyne Toroitich (2:30.13) and Lilian Jelagat completing the podium timing 2:30.23.
“I thank god for making number last year I was number 8, it is my third marathon. After last year’s race, I went ahead to compete at the Istanbul marathon,” she said.
With a busy athletics calendar across the world, she said she will be hoping to compete at the Commonwealth Games as well as World championships.
