Top Confederation of Africa (CAF) officials inspected the Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret ahead of 2018 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) championships.
The officials led event Director Mohamed Shawbury, IT Director Tarek El Deeb, Services Deputy Director Magdaldin Abdelrazak, Marketing Consultant Soukayan Lecheeb and CHAN 2018 LOC director Herbert Tawa Mwachiro were optimistic that the facility will be ready by next year to host the continental showpiece.
But the facility which is supposed to be renovated in its second phase has not started where modern pavilion, terraces and gates are supposed to be constructed.
The team was inspected the facility on their daily duty to determine Kenya’s readiness in hosting the event.
Mwachiro was sure that the facility, come 2018, it will be ready for the championships.
He said that the government is committed in doing the necessary to see that the stadium is completed in time.
“We are confident that Eldoret will be ready to host some of the CHAN matches in January and the government is and other stakeholders are in the forefront in ensuring that the sporting facilities are ready for the tournament,” added Mwachiro added.
But the facility lacks ICT infrastructure but Uasin Gishu County Sports chief officer Eunice Kerich said the ICT infrastructure is part of the whole project.
“We have not tendered the facilities but they are in our plan and I know we will achieve them,” she said.
