Kipkemei, Jepkemoi wins Uasin Gishu X-C championships

Registering his maiden win in athletics career, Peter Kipkemei outclassed Evans Kipkemoi to win the Athletics Kenya (AK) Uasin Gishu County championships held today bat Huruma grounds, Eldoret.

It was also the maiden win for Nancy Jepkemoi who won 8km senior women race ahead of road race specialist Pamela Talam.

Kipkemei from Marura won the 10km senior men race to book a ticket for Central Rift AK championships set for 9th February in Mogotio, Baringo County.

Setting the pace for the world cross country championships set for Aarhus, Denmark, Kipkemei said he wants to feature into the national team ahead of the championships.

“For the first time, I would like to wear national colours as I focus my ambitions for the world cross country championships,” said Kipkemoi

He timed 27:13.7 to edge Kipkemoi to second in 27:22.9 as Abraham Biwott completed the podium timing 27:46.4.

Jekkemoi, who trains in Eldoret, was the senior 8km winner clocking 27:12.1 beating Porto Vino half marathon champion Talam (27:40.8 to second and  Naomi Chepkoech completing the podium stopping the timer in 28:23.1.

“My focus is world cross country. Now that national championships will be held in Eldoret, I want to shine at home,” said Jepkemoi.
