Junior Javelin thrower Meshack Kipkogei has been involved in an accident that shut his dream to compete at the World under 20 trials that kick off on Thursday in Kasarani.
The form four student at ACK St. Thomas Secondary School Kapchumba in Nandi County was set to try his luck for the world under 20 championships that will be held between August 17th to 22nd at Kasarani.
The 18 year old was involved on a road accident while riding a motorcycle on Wednesday morning along Eldoret-Kapsabet road while heading to the school to collect his birth certificate before tomorrow’s trials.
The accident occurred when the motorcycle he was riding ploughed into a herd of cattle and he was rushed to Kapkibimbir Dispensary for treatment where he was discharged this evening.
“I was riding the motorcycle I plunged into the cattle before I applied emergency brakes, it was too late hence causing body bruises that cannot allow me to compete,” said Kipkogei.
Him and other athletes were to travel today to Nairobi for the trials
“We were to travel today (Wednesday) to Nairobi and once I was caught up in the crash, I had to inform the federation of what had occurred and they responded positively,” he added.
