Triple world record holder Faith Kipyegon will lead compatriots Nelly Chepchirchir and Ednah Jebitok at the finals of the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Kipyegon, who will be seeking to defend her title for the second and win a hattrick won the women’s 1,500m heats with 4:02.62 to make to the semifinals.
Chepchirchir, the world under 20 800m finalists won in her heat at 4:00.87 to make it to the semifinals while Jebitok, the former world under 18 1,500m bronze medalist finished 4th in her heat at 4:54.07.
It was bad news for another Kenyan, the former world under 20 1,500m champion Purity Chepkirui fsiled the qualify after finishing 7th in her teat in 4:04.51.
