Faith Kipyegon, Peres Jepchirchir, Daniel Ebenyo Simiu and Jacob Krop will lead Kenyans at the inaugural World Athletics Road Running championships set for Latvia from September 30th to October 1st.
Athletics Kenya named the duo alongside other top Kenyans at the newly launched road running championships with majority of them now competing at the ongoing world championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Kipyegon will lead Nelly Chepchirchir and Beatrice Chepkoech in the women’s road mile.
In the men’s Road Mile, Timothy Cheruiyot, Africa 5,000m champion Abel Kipsang and World Under-20 champion Reynold Cheruiyot will be lining up for the crown in the two day championships.
Reigning world 5,000m silver medalist Jacob Krop, Commonwealth Games 5,000m silver medalist Nicholas Kimeli and Cornelius Kemboi will compete in the 5km for men while women will feature Carolyn Nyaga, Beatrice Chebet and Lilian Kasait.
Focus will be on the Olympic marathon champion Peris Jepchirchir who will lead the women’s half marathon alongside Irene Khamais, Margaret Chelimo, Catherine Reline and Janeth Chepng’etich.
In men’s half marathon, newly crowned world 10,000m silver medalist Ebenyo will be up against Bernard Kibet, Prague half marathon champion Alexander Mutiso, Berlin Half marathon champion Sebastian Sawe and Barcelona half marathon champion Charles Langat.
