Eldoret golf club vice-captain Mathew Koech is optimistic that the Linda Maji Mtaani tournament will be very exciting when top amateurs take on professional golfers in the Pro-Am golf tournament at the par 71 Eldoret golf club.
The two-day event sponsored by Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) will tee off on Saturday to Sunday where top amateurs and professional will be competing for the crown.
Koech said that it will be a good tournament and it’s exciting to host professional golfers in this side of the country.
“Top amateurs are also traveling from Nairobi to play. This will showcase Eldoret Club as a course and Eldowas as a serious partner in the game of golf,” said Koech.
Last weekend, top amateur battled for the Manchester salver, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series that was won by Ugandan Michael Alunga after edging out defending champion Simon Karari from Limuru club with two under par 140 gross.
According to the draw, over 100 golfers will be chasing the title in the 36-hole tournament where top golfers from neighbouring clubs have confirmed their participation.
Nandi Bears’ chairman Kimeli Mutai will lead his contingent led by Western Kenya’s finest lady golfer faith Chemutai, Lydia Jebichii among others.
Alunga will be pairing with former Eldoret captain jack Tuwei as Koech will be up with immediate captain Nathan Tororei, Sammy Mulama take on former captain Joseph watunu among others.
Karari said that the Eldoret tournament that the tournament will be good as part of preparations for Kiambu Open next weekend.
“My expectations are to play well and compete against the top professional golfers in Kenya. This will be part of my preparation for the Kiambu Open Golf tournament to be played on 19th and 20th,” said Karari.
Also confirmed pro is Lake Victoria Serena golf resort and spa Boniface Simwa, the former Eldoret resident golfer as well as resident pro Andrew Chelogoi.
“This will be the best game for me because I have played on the course for a long time. Last weekend I played alongside amateurs in the KAGC series and I found the course to be good. I want to play well come the weekend,” said Simwa
