World marathon
record holder Brigid Kosgei and Kibiwott Kandie closed 2019 on a high, winning
the 95th edition of San Silvester De Sao Paulo 15km Road Race on New
Year’s Eve in Brazil.
the London marathon champion, kosgei won the title in 48:54
But it was drama as Kandie pipped Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo on the tape to win the title.
The Ugandan teenage runner was just a couple of steps away from winning, raised his arms in celebration as he took his last strides but then Kandia suddenly appeared alongside, also raising his arms in celebration then half a stride ahead of Kiplimo and keeping the record in Kenyan hands.
Kandie is the first person to break the 43-minute mark in the 15k race, crossing the line in 42:59. Kiplimo’s time was 43-flat.
