Hosts Bernard Koyyoko will be facing off with top seed player Nderitu Gitonga for the third leg of the National Scrabble Tournament circuit to be hosted in Bungoma this weekend.
Koyyoko, who was part for the team Kenya at the world English Scrabble Players Association Championships (WESPAC) said the tournament is expected to give home players an upper hand in search of the winner.
This will be the first time the tournament will be hosted in Bungoma in the two day event that starts on Saturday 7th to Sunday 8th at the Elegant Hotel.
Apart from Koyyoko and Nderitu, the tournament is expected to attract top Scrabble Kenya players across the country and the border to try their hand at the goody bag.
After winning two out of two meetings since the circuit started, Nderitu will be against second seed Allan Oyende and Francis Wachira, who are expected to participate in this tournament.
If Gitonga emerges victorious, this will be his third title this year and it will cement him as top seed.
Scrabble Kenya chairman Bernard Amuke said the tournament will turn around the great fortunes in the people of Western kenya.
“We are hoping for a good turnout as our National team continues preparing for the East and Central African Championship in Uganda over Easter.” said Amuke.
The tournament will be comprised of three divisions with Nderitu, Gitonga and . The Premier division, the intermediate division and the Open Division.
A high turnout is expected given the numerous goodies lines up for the winners
