KPA whip Chema for their maiden Kenya Volleyball men’s title

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) defeated Chema to record their maiden Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s league title in a match played at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

In a final play off the best of 3, KPA won two, one yesterday and another today to seal the title 2-0.

In game one, the champions edged out Chema in a five thriller wining 3-2 at 25-19, 22-25, 27-29, 25-19 and 16-14 then today, they won in straight sets of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-21 for the title.

The Mombasa-based side won the league title after completing a double against the newbies.

Coached by James Ontere, the former player of the club said it was good for the victory after years of trials.

“We are really glad to win the title. It is our first time to clinch the title and everything worked according to the plan. Our attack and defence were on point and that gave us the win,” said Ontere.

With victory, they will shift their focus to the Kenya Cup as they look for a double swoop this season.

Chema’s Jeremiah Mukopi blamed his side’s poor reception and service for the defeat.

“The approach to the game was wrong and we could not contain the pressure. Our reception and service were not good but we have learned our lesson the hard way and we look forward to building from that loss.”

The triumph meant KPA walked home with Ksh 300,000 shillings and a trophy, while Chema bagged 200,000 shillings for being the first runner-up.

Kenya Prisons bagged the bronze medal after edging Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) 3-2 in a five set thriller taking home Ksh100,000
