Reigning world 5,000m silver medalist Jacob Krop and Ishmael Kipkurui will be competing at the finals of the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Krop and Kipkurui tied in seventh place during the second semifinal after both clocked 13:33.66. Guatemala’s Luis Grijalva topped the race in 13:32.72 with Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha second in 13:32.83. Mohamed Ahmed completed the top three places in the semi in 13:33.16.
It was a disappointment for Nicholas Kimeli and Cornelius Kemboi could not make the cut. Kimeli placed 14th in 13:40.43 while Kemboi recorded 13:44.32 to place 17th.
The semifinal was won by Spanish Mohamed Katir in 13:35.90 with Ethiopia’s Gebrhiwet Hagos second in 13:36.15. Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen (13:36.21) closed the top three places in the heat.
