KU face Makerere in football final as Kilonzo and Wanza dominate on track at Africa University Games

Hosts Kenyatta University will be facing off with Makerere University of Business Studies at the finals of the ongoing All Africa University Games at the KU gounds.

After beating Makerere University 2-1 in today’s semifinals, KU under the tutelage of former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia player Tobias Ochola will be hoping to win their maiden title that has been predominantly won by other universities.

Brian Ogutu netted a brace with Makerere’s Samwel Omari scoring a consolatrion to book for 2008 champions MUBS who were 3-0 winners over Unoversity of Development Studies (UDS) to book the final play.

KU and MUBS will be renewing their rivalry where the former were 2-1 winners in pool matches.

In athletics, Boniface Kilonzo of Mount Kenya University won javelin gold to defend his title in 62:99 followed by Justus Kipkenda of Kisii University (52.36m) for silver and John Eigege of Nigeria’s Nnamdi Azikiwe (51.36m) settled for bronze.

On track, KU’s Diana Wanza won the women’s 5,000m with a double after clinching the 10000m yesterday.

She won 35:15.21 followed by Sarah Koomsen of Ghana University of Education (38:47.70) while Tsholofelo Zwane of Tshwane University of Technology (South Africa) came third in 39.01.93.

Charles Baah from the University of Education Winneba won the men’s 1,500m in a 4:01.60 followed by Dedan Kimathi University’s Lemerian Gideon bagged silver in 4:01.87 While Aziz Mohammed from the University of Ghana took bronze in 4:02.44.
