Kundu family is the latest entry into Kenyan sports where siblings have represented the country in national and international championships.
Annette and Agrippina Kundu, the daughters of Mr Reuben and Mr Jane Kundu have all torn in national colours playing football and volleyball respectively.
Last week, luck befell the family when the young Annette, the Harambee starlets goalkeeper with her counterpart defender Ruth Ingotsi signed a three year deal with Lakatamia fc based in Cyprus while Agrippina won the sole ticket for 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan with the national women volleyball team, Malkia Strikers. She also turns up for Kenya Women Premier league side Eldoret Falcons under coach Joshua Ariko.
Annette y was the sole shot-stopper that won the 2019 CECAFA senior Women title played in Tanzania. Following her impressive performance, she bagged the golden glove award in the tournament after she failed to concede a goal.
Apart from that, she was also the number one keeper for Starlets on their journey to clinch the Olympic slot.
Annette said: “I have been waiting for such an event in my career. My dream has come true to play professional football across the world. I never knew luck will come on my side and play abroad.”
The Ibinzo Girls High School alumni have been inspired by her elder sister Agrippina, who advised her to take up goalkeeping because of her height.
Agrippina said that she was happy for her younger sister and encouraged her to go and work hard in her training.
“She is a good girl who listens to instructions and I know she will do her best upon reaching Cyprus,” said Agrippina.
Eldoret Falcons Coach Joshua Ariko said that they received the news with joy terming that as an opening for the other girls in the team.
“We have been struggling with the girls and I’m excited that something good came their way. This will boost morale for the remaining team members to always work hard,” said Ariko
Apart from Kundu’s in football, there is the Masika’s led by Ayub Timbe Masika who plays alongside his young brother Musa Masika not forgetting Oliech Siblings of Dennis and Sammy with the later dumping football for rugby.
Three sons of a medical doctor Wilfred Emonyi Injera has three playing sons of then retired Humprey Kayange, Collins Injera and Collins Agevi.
The three sons have made it to the national team and they lined up for Kenya at 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Humphrey Khayange, the firstborn, made his third appearance at the Commonwealth Games while winger Collins Injera, the immediate younger.
There is also the Wamusamia family of Dennis and Johnstone who plays rugby15s.
Wamusamia, the former footballer married a volleyballer Penina Tallam.
In track and field as well as marathon has had a good share of siblings rivalry.
Newly crowned world 10km record holder Rhonex Kipruto, also the world under 10, 10,000m champion competes alongside his young brother Bravin Kogei on track.
Last year, during national trials, Kipruto defeated Kogei as the family hierarchy was maintained.
Others include Daisy Chepkemei who competes with her elder sister Norah Jeruto.
