Former Kenyan international football MacDonald Mariga played 90 minutes for his club Oviedo against Lugo in the Spanish Segunda Division on Sunday.
But Michael Olunga was unused again as Girona beat beat Levante 2-1 at the Ciutat de Valencia Stadium in Valencia.
The former Inter Milan player was totally used in the 3-2 win over second placed Lugo at Nuevo Carlos Tartiere Stadium in Oviedo.
The three points propelled Oviedo to 11th spot on the log after hovering dangerously above the relegation zone and on the flipside the loss meant Lugo lost their spot to Granada who are looking to bounce straight back into La Liga after being relegated last season.
Real Oviedo’s season is starting to shape up, the team winning three of the last five games after picking just two wins in the first 10 games and they will definitely be seeking promotion to the La Liga for the first time since 2001.
Olunga was absent again from Girona’s squad for the second consecutive game Levante 2-1 at the Ciutat de Valencia Stadium in Valencia after missing the historic win over reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid. The new boys are now tenth on the log with 15 points from 11 games and are currently sitting comfortably out of the relegation scrap.
