La Liga: Michael Olunga’s Girona beats Real Madrid

Kenyan international football star Michael Olunga was not used when his side Girona beat Real Madrid in Sunday’s La Liga match played at the Municipal Stadium.

Olunga who is on loan in the Spanish top league was not omitted from the squad that beat defending champions Real Madrid 2-1 in Girona’s biggest wins in history of a top flying team.

The victory comes with much hyped self determination of Catalonia voting to declare independence from Spain and the win moved them to 12th on the table.

Girona failed to utilize their chance from the corner as Madrid went in front in the 12th minute from a brilliant counter attack by Karim Benzema who laid it off to Christiano Ronaldo to shoot only for the keeper to parry the ball in the path of Isco who tapped it in for his third goal of the campaign.

The first half came to a close with Girona trailing 1-0 and in the second, a flurry of goals from Girona with the first coming from Uruguayan striker Stuani in the 51st who exercised his quick feet to get past Nacho and Captain Sergio Ramos, shooting into the bottom right corner for an equalizer.

But Portu fired in the winner just six minutes later with a flick from Maffeo’s wayward shot.
