Kenyan runners dominated the 8th edition of Rock City Marathon held on Sunday in Mwanza in the neighbouring Tanzania.
Abraham Too and Alice Gladys Otero were the men and women winners of the race that was attended by assistant minister for Sports and Culture Miss Juliana Shonza who competed in 3km distance.
It was the same in half marathon where Kenyans Peter Limo and Dolphin Omare emerged victorious.
The Kenyans beat hosts in both gender, with first Tanzanian coming in eighth position in the slow pace race. Too won the race in 2:22.45 followed closely by Moris Motima who timed 2:23.19 before George Onyancha completed the podium for Kenyan side in 2:23.27.
But it was shocking for hosts runner Paschal Mombo coming in as the first Tanzanian in position 8th timing 2:30.43.
Too said the preparations for the race was good and faced no big challenge following his good training.
“I prepared well for this race and I have had good results this year. I thank God for such big win,” said Too.
It was another great win for women side as Alice Gladys Otero won the women side with 2:48.18 followed by fellow Kenyan Tecla Chebet (2:54.28) before Flavious Kwamboka completing podium places in 2:57.32.
Unlike in men, the first host runner finished 8th, Brabuelia Bryton was fourth in women’s race clocking 3:14.41.
The winners pocketed Tshs. 4 million, Tshs. 2 for first runner up and second runner up carried home Tshs 1 million.
It was the same script in 21km distance. Peter Limo led Kenyan podium as well as Dolphin Omare in men and women races respectively.
Limo won the race in 65:24 followed by George Waiyaki in 65:50 before Tanzanian Chacha Boy won the first medal in 65:59.
Omare won the race in 77:12 followed by Kenyan Alice Mogire (78:30) as Maiselina Issa completed the Kenyan podium in 79:55 as best host Siatha Romanus came 6th in 85:58.
