Leos in sweet revenge against KCB with Christie sevens win

It was a sweet revenge for Strathmore Leos who beat KCB Rugby to win Christie, the second leg of Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) rugby sevens series at the RFUEA grounds, Nairobi.

Leos, who lost to the bankers at the Kabeberi Sevens last weekend, registered a 15-10 victory against the 12-10 loss at the same venue.

Philemon Olang touched down first for 5-0 up for Louis  Kisia then Barnabas Owuor touched down for the second unconverted try for 10-0 before Geoffrey Okwatch halved the score 10-5 into water break.

Matthew Mogaya went past the whitewash for the third try for 15-5 lead at the interval then Levy Amunga scored the converted try Dennis Mwanja.

In the semifinals, KCB had to dig deep to beat Menengai Oilers 17-12 in sudden death while Strathmore thrashed Western Bulls 26-7.

Menegai Oilers took the bronze medal after beating the tournament’s surprise package, Western Bulls, 12-7.

Mwamba finished fifth by edging Quins 26-5 while Homeboyz settled for the Challenge trophy after beating Daystar Falcons 26-14.

The series takes a two-week break and will resume with the Driftwood Sevens on June 18-19 in Mombasa.
