Luanda Villa, Kona Rangers silence critics, book final showdown

Luanda Villa and Kona Rangers silenced their doubters as they booked for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Western Region Mini league finals on Sunday 15th seeking promotion.

The two, will be facing off at the finals of the play offs with Luanda from Vihiga County defeating title favourites Elim FC from Trans Nzoia County while Kona from Bungoma County defeated Chewoyet FC of West Pokot during the semifinals played today at Kenyatta Stadium, Kitale to book for final dates tomorrow at the same venue.

The four team play-off will be the promotion mini league with the winner being promoted to the Division One and the loser will take on Nyanza region losers for promotion slot.

In the opening encounter, Kona mercilessly defeated Chewoyet 5-0 before Villa silencing critics and home fans 4-1

Phenias Omukatu  scored first for Villa in the 13th minute before Elim leveled in the 15th minute but the 25th goal by Marvin Olilo silenced home fans as they went into break 1-2 up.

After resumption, Villa netted through Felix Okik in the 49th minute before Justus Munik sealed the 4-1 win to book for Kona final.

Villa’s Secretary General Steve Munala said they went to Kitale for nothing else but the trophy, which will not come easily but through hard work, determination and resilience.

“We left Luanda from Vihiga County in search of the title and promotion. We did not come here for nothing but promotion. We know the title race is hard after looking at how Kona cornered their opponent. They are not easy road,” said Munala.  

Munala said they were leading Zone B before coronavirus hit the country but since they had not played more games, they were relegated to second and Kona Rangers from Bungoma County were awarded the top position.
