Luanda Villa whip Kona Rangers, promoted

Luanda Villa sunned Kona Rangers to win the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Western Region Mini league played today at Kenyatta Stadium, Kitale Trans Nzoia County.

The Vihiga based club won 2-0 against Bungoma’s with the winners gaining an automatic qualification into the Division One following years of Division Two side.

Two quick second half goals from Phenias Omukatu (59) and Sammy Omolo 85 earned the promotion Villa while Rangers will wait for the playoofs before knowing their fate.

With less than two weeks to Division One Kick off, Villa’s Secretary General Steve Munala said they expect good performance in Division One.

“The league is just less that two weeks and we have to prepare well for the league,” said Munala.

At the final, Munala said the game was too hard for them but managed to recollect and win with a good margin.

“We left Luanda from Vihiga County in search of the title and promotion. We did not come here for nothing but promotion. We know the title race was not easy,” said Munala.  

Munala said they were leading Zone B before coronavirus hit the country but since they had not played more games, they were relegated to second and Kona Rangers from Bungoma County were awarded the top position

Villa defeated title favourites Elim FC from Trans Nzoia County while Kona from Bungoma County defeated Chewoyet FC of West Pokot during the semifinals played on Saturday at the same venue.

The four team play-off will be the promotion mini league with the winner being promoted to the Division One and the loser will take on Nyanza region losers for promotion slot

In the opening encounter, Kona mercilessly defeated Chewoyet 5-0 before Villa silencing critics and home fans 4-1

Phenias Omukatu  scored first for Villa in the 13th minute before Elim leveled in the 15th minute but the 25th goal by Marvin Olilo silenced home fans as they went into break 1-2 up.

After resumption, Villa netted through Felix Okik in the 49th minute before Justus Munik sealed the 4-1 win to book for Kona final.
