Luck and Hookies win Half Court basketball tournament titles in Eldoret

Team Luck and the Hookies crowned winners of the Eldoret Qualifier of the Half Court basketball tournament for the men’s and women’s team respectively played over the weekend at the Eldoret Sports Club.

Luck came from behind to beat resilient Team Wednesday while Hookies beat Kickers to book for the National championships set for June 1st to book for the a single trip to the USA.

Hookies proved to be too strong for the Kickers by beating them 14-4 to become winners of the Eldoret qualifiers as Luck were 20-12 winners over Team Wednesday.

Luck’s captain Stephen Ndung’u said they a strategy of utilising the newly created three point rule worked in their favor since they were already aware of their weaknesses going  into the competition.

‘’Most of us are small in size, we can’t drive because we knew we will get blocked so the three pointer is our power and that is what we used. They say use what you have to get what you want.’’

‘’As we gear to the National finals 70 percent will beworking on our strong areas and 30 percent will be focused on our weak points.’’ Ndung’u said.

Hookies Sheila Chepkorir said despite the few numbers of lady’s teams that represented the region, there was an overall rise in registration by the ladies over the two editions that have taken place in the area.

‘’I can say that there is an improvement in the edition. This is the second time we are hosting the tournament in Eldoret, previously we had less than 30 teams, this year we have 30 so there is a big improvement even on the lady’s side.’’
