Former world junior 800m champion Lydia Nasimiyu Wafula will be the key highlight at the Prison Kenya Track and field championships set for tomorrow at Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The reigning Kilimanjaro marathon champion will be competing for Lang’ata Women Prison in either 10,000m or 5,000m.
Wafula also the MTN Kampala marathon champion graduated from two lap race to marathon said she will be looking at the programmer to see which race she can run because she can’t compete on Saturday.
“I will be running in either 10,000m or 5,000m because I can’t run on a Sabbath Day. Saturday is a day well preserved to serve my God and not run,” said the former world 800m junior finalists.
The championships will be used to select a team to compete at the national trials ahead of IAAF world championships in Doha, Qatar but Wafula said she can’t compete at the championships because all national finals and world championships are run on Saturday s.
“I will be competing for Prisons but I can’t run for Kenya. That is waste of time and my focus to run well in all marathons ahead of me,” she said.
She started her maiden marathon run at the inaugural Eldoret City Marathon last year in Eldoret where she finished in 23rd position but that did not deter her ambitions in the 42km distance.
