Former Kenyan international Paul Were has joined National Super league side Mathare United.
Were was unveiled today alongside goalkeeper Gideon Ogweno, Starlon Odhiambo, and Hillary Kiprotich for the former Kenya Premier League side.
Apart from that, the club has signed other 11 players in the mid season that ends tonight and Were is a Kenyan international who has played for Tusker and AFC Leopards locally as well as a host of other teams in Africa and Europe.
The forward was part of Kenya’s squad at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. “Were’s experience will be key in our bid to return to the Premier League. The speedy winger was last attached to Rayon Sport of Rwanda,” the club said in a statement.
Ogweno, a goalkeeper, was on the bench in Mathare United’s win over Mombasa Elite last weekend.
He joins from Migori Youth and was between the sticks when Mathare United played them on matchday One this season in September. He kept a clean sheet in the game as we played out to a barren draw.
Odhiambo also joins from NSL rivals Kibera Black Stars. The left fullback is the son of former Mathare United defender Noah Abich. He also featured for his former team against Mathare earlier in the season when they drew 2-2.
Hillary Kiprotich is a young midfielder who will first be part of the Mathare United youth team.
Two weeks ago, the club unveiled Donald Ange from Kariobangi Sharks, Kevin Masongo (Gusii), Daniel Odhiambo (Kibera Black Stars), Mohammed Kilume, Ali Athiman, Stephen Okola and striker Boaz Maeri.
