Mauritius record second gold at CAC Africa Championships

The second day of the CAC Road Cycling African Championships in Diani, Kwale County kicked off in style when Mauritius won their second gold for the country.

Today, the island nation blazed to gold in the Mixed Relay, the second gold after yesterday’s gold from Hardy Tristan men junior in the Individual Time Trial (ITT).

During the race, the men set off first romp then women to clear 28km, 14km for each gender they went ahead to win the gold at 35:24.11 with Rwanda getting silver at 35:24.42 and Algeria sealing bronze in 36:17.53.

Team captain Aurelien De Comarmond said the team arrived in Diani with victory in their mind.

‎‎“Coming into this race we wanted to win, but we knew the other countries were super strong. We had super good teamwork today, we are like a family. Everybody knows how to ride with each other,” he said.

The triumph held personal significance for him after missing last year’s championships in Eldoret.

‎‎“During the last championship I was to compete in the mixed relay but I could not, I had some complications. I am happy to be back, to compete, and to win this year.”
