Mengich claim Lady Captain and Friends title in Eldoret

Edward Mengich fired a bird to guide hime with the Lady Captain prize golf tournament played on par 71 Eldoret golf club on Saturday.

A birdie on 14 par four boosted Mengich to claim the title sponsored by Lady Captain Jane Koech and friends after taking over the mantle early this year.

Despite starting on a bad note by dropping three shots in the opening hole, Mengich went ahead to win the title after firing one under par 70.

Handicap 20 golfer parred on the second par 4 dropped five shots on third, two in the 4th parred on 5th dropped two in 6th and bogeyed in  7th, 8th and 9th in the front nine.

In the back nine, he bogeyed in 10th par 4, back to back pars in 11th and 12th dropped one in 13th before he recorded his best of the day with a birdie in 14th par 4. Parred in 15th bogeyed in 16th recovered with a par in 17th before concluding with a bogey in the 18th.

He beat his close rival K. Kiptoo with a shot after playing level par 71. Handicap 19 Kiptoo edged out Kamal Manek (12) on count back before Jackson Kiprono coming in 4th with one over par 72 as John Barorot from Vet Lab losing to Kiprono on count back.

Koech said the tournament was well sponsored by her friends before February when she will be leaving office.

“The friends played a big role in the tournament which was very successful,” said Koech.
