Michael Karanga Warigia fired one under par 215 to win the inaugural Nanyuki Open, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 72 Nanyuki Sports Club hosts.
The three day championships brought together top amateurs who are searching for a ticket for the 2026 magical Kenya Open Golf Championships came to an end in thrilling fashion at the scenic Nanyuki Sports Club where Karanga captured the tournament’s first title after facing off with 74 top amateur golfers, delivered on its promise of world-class golf against the backdrop of Mount Kenya.
The reigning KAGC champion edged out home player Cyprian Bundi with two shots at one over par 217 with Muthaiga’s Daniel Kiragu completing the podium with three over 219.
Coming from Windsor golf club, fired four over par 76 on the third and last round of the tournament, to add on his two under par in round 2 and one under par in round one.
Karanga, currently ranked 70th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, showcased his trademark consistency and sharp play to outlast a competitive field.
The championship featured a prize purse of Kes 500,000, underscoring the Nanyuki Open’s growing stature and solidifying KAGC circuit. Beyond the competition, the event spotlighted Nanyuki Sports Club’s rich golfing tradition, challenging course, and panoramic views, while also offering fans a weekend of sport, community, and hospitality.
During the prize-giving ceremony, the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) announced the four-man national team set to represent the country at the Africa Region IV Championship in Antananarivo, Madagascar, from 25th to 29th November 2025.
