Reigning Rotterdam marathon champion Kenneth Kipkemoi was the best Kenyan in today’s Chicago marathon held today in USA as Kenyans failed keep the pace of two times world and Olympic champion Mo Farah.
Making his debut in world marathon majors, Kipkemoi, the former Africa 10,000m champion finished fourth timing 2:05.57 behind Farah’s 2:05.11 (personal best), Ethiopian Mosinet Geremew finishing third timing 2:05:24 and Japanese Suguru Osako in 2:05:50.
Farah became the first British man to win the Chicago Marathon since Paul Evans 22 years ago and the fifth Brit after Evans, Steve Jones, Paul Davies-Hale and Eamonn Martin.
Kipkemoi led Kenyan’s reigning World marathon champion Geoffrey Kirui, 2016 champion Abel Kirui, Prague half marathon champion Bedan Karoki and Tokyo marathon champion Dickson Chumba.
Kipkemoi, who won Rotterdam Marathon in personal best 2:05:44 in April this year, was the first Kenyan to finish in fourth in 2:05:57 as Farah’s former training partner and defending champion Galen Rupp came in fifth in 2:06:21.
